An Intervention

Did you see The Office this week? Michael held an impromptu intervention for Meridith who is a total alcoholic. So, so funny and it made me remember when Brent confronted me about one of my addictions. Which of my numerous vices did he target? It was not my well-documented dependency on Diet Dr. Pepper, my problematic pattern of crawling back into bed after a cold, early morning run, or my challenging chocolate consumption.
Nope...
It was my inexplicable impulse of buying sunglasses. I just can't resist no matter how many pair I have. One day Brent brought the whole lot in from the car, spread them on the table, and ordered, "Choose two." Ever see Sophie's Choice? It was like choosing from among my children. I met his less-than-gentle request with my list of excuses:
  • I like my sunglasses to match my outfit.
  • Several of my collection are large and take up half of my face...useful for days when I'm not looking my best.
  • I usually purchase them on sale or even at the Dollar Store so it's not a financial hindrance. (Unfortunately this is to compensate another of my issues...LOSING pairs of sunglasses.)
  • They always fit no matter how fat I get.
  • I squint less when I wear sunglasses. This slows the deepening of my brow-scowl wrinkle and postpones inevitable Botox treatments.
Don't you agree? I NEED them all.
In fact, if you're looking for good stocking stuffer ideas, Honey...

I see absolutely NO problem -- no need for intervention . . . coming from someone with over 40 pairs of jeans!! So take it for what it's worth. Look the glasses aren't expensive, they don't take up much room, and they make you feel happy . . . so what's the problem? :) Now Meridith on the other hand -- that's a problem!! Just don't let Brent physically drag you out of a dollar store -- that wouldn't be pretty -- you have to give consent to be dragged!!!

I hope my husband doesn't see your post and decide I need a shoe intervention. LOL! I love good shoes and always get a fabulous deal on them. It's not like you are breaking the bank on this so sorry, Brent, she wins on this one. I see this as a trivial impulse that makes a big difference in how you feel. Keep them! Just hide some so Brent won't see them and be triggered into helping you over come your addiction.LOL

The entire time I was reading this post I kept thinking that your justifications were sound and that you made several valid points (very funny...I laughed out loud). THEN I SAW THE PICTURE! Yes, you have a problem. Sorry.
Had we known about it, Jeff would never have called you about the sale up at the Smith warehouse. Hope you enjoyed your "fix". :O

Wow! That's a lot of sunglasses. I tend to lose them too, so it's good to have a few extra pairs - or ten or twenty...

You have lots of cute ones. And yes, we watched The Office and loved it. Isn't it a great show? I hate watching it alone, though, if Ben is traveling. Just not as fun without him.

I've bought a lot of sunglasses in my life but I can't seem to hang on to them long enough for them to accumulate (they either get snapped apart by little hands or, more commonly, they disappear to the "island of items that have mysteriously vanished into thin air." Either you have some mad skills at keeping sunglasses for longer than a few months at a time (my average), or you are buying far more pairs than even this picture would suggest. Either way, very impressive.
