My Favorite Mountain

This is Old Chief Mountain. It's in Montana--a fact I was shocked to learn from my Biology 20 teacher whose great delight it was to burst anyone's happy anything, even if it was a minor false geographical notion. You can see this beautiful mountain out any of my parents' west-facing windows and it represents Southern Alberta and HOME to me. I've had a rough week and have been feeling down...tired, lazy, misunderstood, unbalanced, PSYCHO, etc. Today I saw this picture on my friend's facebook profile and it made me long for thick-cut, buttered bread, hot chocolate, a footrub from my mom, and a joke or poem from my dad.

(I didn't even ask to 'borrow' this photo, Deanna. Let me know if I'm infringing on your copyrighted genius. You are amazing!)

What a great picture. I have a favorite mountain too: Timpanogos and it presents home also.

I hope things look better soon!

Sorry you've had a rough week, Rita. I hope this one is better. Your "Mom" in Orem.

Sorry to hear about your blues. Mar says, he has no idea how we live with all our hormones, which is what i usually blame bad days on. i always hit my daily workouts a little harder and then do yoga. sounds trite, but it helps - from one fellow runner to another. :)

Brad feels the same about Old Chief - even has a framed photo of it in his office at work.

You need to just pick up the phone the next time you are having one of these weeks! Kindred spirits who live far away are the best/safest people to vent to because it will never come back to haunt you!

It's been a long time since I've seen Old Chief - I need to get up there soon. Other images/memories which may jog some great memories for you might include - our low-fat coke slurpies with bubble-gum ice cream, cruisin' main with one stop light, you/Steph P drivin' those little blue/silver cars - before the age of 16, bus rides and YM/YW's activities with Andy Molcak and our other Leavitt friends, Mr. Belleau (sp?) "got my mind set on you", each eatin 5 donuts from the bakery and promising we won't tell anyone!, "Friar Tuck" (inside joke), french fries for lunch at Sue's dad's restaurant (I can't believe we weren't all about 200 lbs!), ditchin' Mr Z's class to go to the hutterite colony (were you with us?), cruisin' the grey Grand Am, sneakin into Who's On 1st before we were 18, David "Letterman" Hardy from Raymond and the other Raymond dudes we hung with . . . Ahh, those were the days . . . few responsibilities, few consequences, a lotta' laughs. Hope those memories brought a smile to your face!!! QQ

Rita, I had no idea you liked my work that much! Glad it helped to brighten your week. Take care of yourself! By the way, I'm getting that shot printed on a very large gallery wrapped canvas for my house!

That's just beautiful, Rita. I can see why you're feeling a bit homesick - and all that other stuff. Sorry you've had some yucky days. Isn't that just part of life and especially with little ones. Hang in there! Things always turn around and look up. Way to be real and honest about how you're really doing - instead of that "I'm fine" thing that we all do. It's one of the things I love about you!

When ever I have a bad day I alwasy long for home too. Probably because those were memories without kids and other responsibilities! Oh, and I love your background :)
