Time Flies

I got this article from my sister-in-law. If you're on the frequently forwarded email list of one or more of your friends, you've probably seen it but I liked it. I've been wondering why I have so little product to show for my effort and why I'm tired all the time (my doctor had the nerve to suggest that I need to work on getting more than 5.5 hours of sleep a night!). This reminded me of all the stuff I do on automatic pilot. No wonder I'm beat!

I LOVE THAT! So true. That's for the uplift..it makes me realize that I'm in good company with all the other moms out there.

It should read "thanks for the uplift".

I totally agree. It made me a little tired just reading it.

FANTASTIC!! But really, I kind of want to punch the friend for being so dense. My mom reminded me of a saying a couple of days ago. A man works from sun to sun but a woman's work is never done. I think fathers are more involved these days but truly mothers are always doing something.

While I was in the middle of child rearing, I was aware, of course, of how much my wife did. She did all the things the article mentioned, plus the full-time job as prophet, seer and revelator to everything in the Church world of our kids--prayers, scriptures, family home evening, primary talks, scouting, For the Strength of Youth, Duty to God, Young Womanhood, girls camp, sports, and all the other stuff Mormon mothers do.

But then I had a break. My own kids grew up. My wife and I got our lives back.

And then I started seeing what our daughters and daughters-in-law were going through, it was like a revelation all over again. I was struck by how everything with kids is a battle--they don't want to get up, they don't want to go to bed, they don't want to go to school, they don't want to come home, they don't want to eat this and that, they don't want to get in the car, they don't want to get out of the car, they don't want to clean up their messes, and on and on. They whine and cry and fuss and fight at almost every step along the way.

And I'm talking here about the really cooperative ones. Some of our kids and grandkids weren't/aren't so cooperative. (I won't name names.)

So, here's my kudos to you wonderful mothers. I love you. I honor you. I deeply respect you. You are doing a marvelous work and a wonder. You are the greatest.

Isn't this the truth? I needed to read this today. Thanks for the post, Rita.

And Scott's comment hit the nail on the head too. I appreciated it as well. Hmmm. Which of the kids/grandkids could he be referring to?

Rita! I just am seeing your blog for the first time! I love this post. Makes me not so crazy today. One of my kids is sick and I can't seem to get anything done.
